A ceramics studio throwing and glazing tableware and vases in small batches, named for the pomegranate motif that recurs across its glaze work.

Anaar Ceramics throws on a manual kick wheel — no electric wheel in the studio — which the potters say gives them finer control over thin-walled pieces like teacups.

The studio mixes its own glazes from local minerals, and batches vary slightly by season, which means a given glaze color is never perfectly reproducible from one firing to the next.

Firing happens in a wood-fired kiln built by the studio's two founding potters, who still load and fire it together for every batch, roughly once every three weeks.

Anaar's tableware is intentionally slightly asymmetric — the studio doesn't trim pieces to perfect roundness, which is a stylistic choice rather than a limitation of the process.
