Mark of Fatemeh

Fatemeh

Parwan

“I will continue to teach for as long as I can, ensuring that the next generation of Afghan girls does not lose hope.”

A childhood marked by conflict

Fatemeh's family fled to Iran during Afghanistan's 1990s civil war and returned after the republic's establishment. Back home, she faced severe family opposition to girls' education, but a teacher's advocacy eventually secured her university admission.

The struggle for education

She supported herself through university by selling farm produce and teaching part time, earning a Bachelor's degree in Islamic Education from Parwan University.

Dreams shattered

Her progress halted when the Taliban took control, closing universities to women and eliminating her teaching position. The life she had built through years of quiet determination was dismantled.

Building hope

Refusing to accept defeat, she established a home-based informal school teaching secular subjects to girls in her community denied formal education. Her commitment is unshakeable.
