Kohsar Woodworks

Woodworking · Central Highlands · Est. 2011

A woodworking shop carving walnut and mulberry wood into bowls, boxes, and serving pieces using tools built in-house.

Kohsar Woodworks works almost entirely in walnut and mulberry, both grown locally, and the workshop dries its own lumber for a full season before any piece is cut.

Carving is done by hand with a set of chisels maintained and reground in-house over twenty years; the shop trains new carvers on offcuts before letting them touch a piece meant for sale.

Inlay work — bone, brass wire, and occasionally mother-of-pearl — is a newer addition to the shop's range, developed over the last three years in response to demand for jewelry boxes with more detail.

A single serving tray takes roughly a week from rough-cut blank to finished piece; the shop runs two or three pieces in parallel to keep lead times reasonable.
